Eurovision 2024

By Adam Balcombe, studio manager, dock10

There's something about the Eurovision Song Contest that grips the nation. Millions tune into the final and stay up to the bitter end as the scores come in from all across Europe and the world. From ‘douze point’ to ‘nil point’, it's an annual television highlight that dock10 is proud to play a part in.

Following the UK's hosting of last year's Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine, the 68th edition of the Contest will take place in Sweden, with the Grand Final being broadcast live from Malmö Arena. This will be the seventh time Sweden has hosted the Contest and this year it'll be presented by a Hollywood star and an iconic Eurovision-veteran: Malin Åkerman and Petra Mede.

All three live programmes, both semi-finals and the Grand Final, will be broadcast live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. And once again, dock10 will have a role in delivering the high-profile show to UK viewers. Our facility will be the production base for the BBC's transmission of both the semi-finals and the Grand Final, with everything that UK viewers see on their screens passing through our Salford facility before airing on the BBC.

And it promises to be quite a show! For the very first time, the artists from the Big Five countries - France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, plus host nation Sweden – will each perform their entries live and in full during the semi-finals. For the UK, that means Olly Alexander performing ‘Dizzy’ during the first semi-final on Tuesday 7th May 2024.

On Saturday 11th May, the Grand Final will be hosted by veteran commentator Graham Norton, live on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Over on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, Scott Mills and Rylan will be leading the commentary on the airwaves. And national treasure, actress Joanna Lumley, will be joining the BBC Eurovision family as the United Kingdom’s Eurovision spokesperson, delivering the results of the UK's National Jury live during the Grand Final.

We wish Olly and all the entrants the very best of luck!
