Family favourite Blue Peter, filmed at dock10, will be celebrating its 60th year of broadcasting in 2018. Ahead of its big birthday, the Edinburgh International Television Festival hosted a Blue Peter special where the audience had the opportunity to make their own origami Blue Peter boat.
The three-masted galleon was originally sketched by TV artist Tony Hart for a Humpty Dumpty story, but it was repurposed by the BBC as the nautical theme matched the title of Blue Peter – a maritime flag meaning ‘ready to set sail’ that symbolises a voyage of adventure and discovery. Hart gave the boat its final iconic form and colour for the first broadcast of Blue Peter on October 16th, 1958.
